The Children’s Council of Skagit Couty and Help Me Grow Skagit have teamed up with local partners with gifts and information to welcome you to Skagit County.

Safe Sleep
A message from Help Me Grow Skagit
We know that one of the primary concerns for new parents is: How do my baby and I get enough sleep? We understand how important rest is during these early days. Swaddling can be a helpful part of supporting your baby’s sleep, and we encourage you to learn more about safe sleep practices. If you have more questions about sleep or safe sleep practices for your baby, we have provided some helpful resources.

Mental Health Matters
A note from the Skagit Perinatal Mental Health Coalition
Parenthood can feel like you are on a roller coaster! It can be the strangest mix of happy emotions as well as sometimes feeling sadness, anxiety, frustration, or fear.
These feelings can be normal and challenging. We are not designed to go through it alone! There is a network of support waiting for you.

Oral Health
A message from the Skagit Children’s Oral Health Coalition
Baby’s first smile is one of the best gifts ever! And those first teeth are oh, so precious! Although baby teeth are temporary, they are super important to take care of, as they are needed for chewing/digesting, speaking, and providing placeholders for permanent teeth to come in straight.
Toothbrushing will be easier if you start your baby off early by rubbing their gums with a washcloth or finger brush, like the one in this bag. And it’s more fun if you take care of your teeth together as a family, so we have a toothbrush for you, as well. We are here to help you find dental care for yourself and/or for your child.

Breastfeeding Materials
A message from the Skagit Lactation Coalition
You brought a new baby into the world! And now, not only has your body made a new little human, but it is making milk! What superpowers you have!
Feeding doesn’t always come naturally, though. No worries — we are here to help! Skagit County has a wide variety of professional and peer supports to assist you with all-things: feeding, lactation, pumping, bottles, formula, and more! No pressure. No judgement. YOU are the expert on your life!

Resources for Dads
A message from the WA Fatherhood Council
Fathers and father-figures play a vital role in children’s development! Child and family well-being improve when fathers are positively engaged in their children’s lives. We are here to provide support and resources to help you to become the father you aspire to be for your family.
Remember, you are not alone as you begin this journey.
